Allt vi såg, åt och gjorde på designveckan i Milano
Måndag

Landar i Milano på måndagsmorgon och åker direkt till hotellet för att sammanstråla med Uchenna som flög från Köpenhamn. Vi checkar in på NHOW Milan som ligger i Tortona, ett område där många av designveckans events delvis hålls. Vi får ungefär en kvart på rummet för att blixtsnabbt duscha och byta om innan vi måste rusa vidare mot Lexus presentation.

Presskonferens står på schemat och tillsammans med resterande 48 influgna journalister trängs vi i lokalen för att höra finalisternas presentationer i Lexus Design Awards. En presenterar en bh av tredimensionell spets gjord för bröstcancerpatienter och en annan ett flytande hus av bambu som ska lyckas motstå en plötslig ökning av översvämningsvatten.

Det är äntligen dags att fylla på med energi. Jag har inte ätit sedan 06 och känner mig yr. Vi äter lunch på hotellet tillsammans med Mia, journalist från Robb Report och Erik, PR-chef för Lexus i Sverige. Vi skämtar om vårt minutschema kommande dagar och lär känna varandra över bröd, antipasto och espresso. Efter lunchen tar vi oss bort till området för att se alla utställningar, besöka showrooms och events.

Tillsammans med resten av gänget ser vi Lexus installation ”Leading with Light”. De har nämligen tagit fram en rad ljusinstallationer tillsammans med en japanska designduo med namnet Rhizomatiks. Ni kan läsa mer om projektet här!

Cocktail party står på schemat. Jag funderar över klädkoden, i min värld tolkar jag nämligen klädkod “cocktail” med klänning och klackar, något som tech-världen inte verkar vara ense med mig om. Vi dyker upp till minglet i full mundering av paljetter och klackar och sladdar in i baren för en Aperol Spritz innan vi armbågar oss fram bland aggressiva journalister för att se ”President of Lexus” utse grand-prix vinnaren av deras internationella designtävling.
Efter det äter vi middag på Mudec Museum med en meny som visar sig vara en gastronomisk käftsmäll, komponerad av italienska kocken Enrico Bartolini. Det skvallras om att han är den enda kocken i historien som fått utmärkelsen av fyra Guide Michelin-stjärnor på samma gång. Vi sitter nationsvis, med Turkiet och Ryssland som bordsgrannar och pratar om designprojekten och våra förväntningar på kommande dagar.

Klädkoden var cocktail party och vi tolkade det på rent modespråk, medan resten av sällskapet dök upp i jeans och sneakers

På tisdagen gjorde vi ett besök på Ikeas utställning

Lagom till eftermiddagen landade vi i Nice
Tog oss vidare till ett rosa/blått Cannes
Checkade in på Hotell Martinez
Och åt sedan middag på restaurang L´Ecrin
Avslutade med Bellini på Hotell Martinez
Onsdagen spenderade vi på Toyotas europeiska designhuvudkontor

Klockan ringer och det är dags för frukost och utcheckning. Vi passar på att klämma in en timmes jobb i sängen innan vi lämnar vårt hotellrum. Vi har väl inte så mycket som en toalettpaus över på schemat så gäller att inte låta minuterna gå till spillo.

Vi besöker mässan och några fler utställningar, vi svär över kartan och alla italienska gränder när vi försöker lokalisera vår väg till Ikeas utställning. Därefter hinner vi med att besöka Delta Light Showroom och Normann Copenhagen innan vi skyndar tillbaka till Botanical Club för en efterlängtad vinlunch.

Det är dags att åka vidare och Franska Rivieran står på minutschemat. I Frankrike har nämligen Toyota och Lexus sitt europeiska designhuvudkontor och vi har turen att få göra ett unikt studiebesök där.

Efter bara 40 minuter landar vi i Nice och hoppar direkt på bussen som ska ta oss till Cannes och Hotell Martinez, ett hotell jag länge velat bo på. Men vi hinner inte mer än att checka in och lämna väskan på rummet innan vi ska hoppa på transferbussen igen.

Vi minglar, dricker bubbel och pratar med våra grannländer på restaurangen L’Ecrin Beach. Solen håller på att gå ner, luften är ljummen och himlen målad rosa.
Ett par drinkar senare slår vi oss ned till bords, äter en lång middag och avslutar kvällen i baren på Hotell Martinez med den godaste Bellini jag någonsin druckit. Det kändes som att vi inte hann mer än att nudda hotellsängen innan det var dags att kliva upp igen.

Jag vaknar i smått panik och inser att jag har försovit mig, lite. Klockan stod på 06 (men alla som känner mig vet att jag aldrig skulle gå upp då). Jag och Uchenna har bestämt att mötas upp klockan sju för att hinna fånga Cannes i morgonljus. Vi lyckas inte. Istället får jag kasta ner mina kläder i resväskan, slänga upp håret i en knut och knacka på hos min granne för att inte lämna henne kvar i Cannes.
Jag snubblar in i frukostbuffén och är bitter över att jag bara har tre minuter på mig att samla ihop alla guldkorn innan bussen går mot dagens första aktivitet. Jag hinner få i mig en espresso och tar en cappuccino to go.

I gemensam trupp stormar vi in på Toyotas designhuvudkontor som ligger mellan Nice och Cannes. På en hemlig adress. Allt är väldigt konfidentiellt och så fort vi tagit första steget in på anläggningen tvingas vi lämna ifrån oss både telefon och kamera.
Dags att bege sig hemåt! Tack Lexus för två fantastiska dagar!

Vi spenderar hela dagen i Lexus designvärld. Vi får workshops och presentationer av alla de som faktiskt rattar det här globala maskineriet. Vi får steg-för-steg lektioner i hur en bil blir till, hur de skissar först för hand och sen digitalt, hur en prototyp i lera tas fram och hur bilen upplevs genom virtuella glasögon.

Lunch på närliggande golfklubb med hela Lexus designteam och alla journalister.

Efter lunchen tar vi oss vidare mot flygplatsen för att ta planet hem till Sverige. Det har varit två intensiva men fantastiska dygn och jag är tacksam för att jag blivit pyttelite mer bekant med design- och bilbranschen.
